What does it look like?

It’s any shot that splits the screen to show two or more additional scenes playing out.

How’s it done?

It’s done in the editing and there are many creative ways to present the framing on screen.

When should I use it?

It works well when a character is talking directly to the audience about something comedic. It can show the viewer what he is talking about in the present day, the past, or future.
