The Weapon Shadow
What does it look like?
It’s any shot that casts a shadow of a weapon (e.g., knife, gun, axe, etc.) on a surface with the intent of drawing attention to that weapon. It also can distort the size of the weapon from big to small as the shadow moves and creates a nice visual for the audience.
How’s it done?
This shot is done in camera on set using creative lighting choices.
When should I use it?
This shot is best used in moments where you want to build the suspense and emphasize the weapon by casting its shadow on the wall. It works well in those slower moments where a character is investigating a noise or threat of something they are afraid of.
