According to IDC, small businesses (2 to 20 employees), solo entrepreneurs and telecommuters currently make up a universe of 41.3 million in the USA which is expected to grow to 51.6 million by 2002. The annual buying power of this group exceeds $100 billion. In the USA, SoHo (small office/home office) use of the internet leapt to 41.2 per cent in 1998, up from 19.7 per cent in 1996.
