Performance – Introduction

Abstract

Methodologies to model the atmosphere are provided, but this is a prerequisite to any performance analyses. This modeling uses the US Standard Atmosphere, published by NOAA, NASA, and USAF. Methods to estimate atmospheric properties up to 36,089 ft (11,000 m) are presented, with methods for altitudes up to 278,000 ft (85 km) detailed in appendix A. This is followed by methods to calculate true airspeed, equivalent airspeed, and other important airspeeds.
