Dr. Eric Schaffer has been doing usability work since 1977, when it was referred to as “engineering psychology” or “personnel sub-system design.” Since 1981, he’s led Human Factors International, Inc., the largest company specializing in software usability. Dr. Schaffer began creating interface standards in 1982, and has now been responsible for over 250 customized standards for settings ranging from mainframes, to interactive voice response, to graphical user interface, to web and mobile environments.
