Chapter 14. Creating Lighting and Shadows

Although it’s easy to add some quick working lighting to any given scene, lights are one of the most important parts to get right when trying to set a mood. A small change in the temperature of a light can make a scene seem inviting and open or dark and sinister. Lights can also be used in a more gameplay-oriented facility. Lights and shadows can be used to guide a player down particular paths, illuminate an important object, or draw attention to an often-overlooked detail. Lights can make your textures look dull and flat or bring out all the little details in your world and make it come to life.
