Preface

Heat and mass transfer is one of the core subjects in the engineering syllabus of most Indian universities. This book is written to meet the needs of students of mechanical and automobile engineering. It should also serve as a reference book for professional engineers working in the areas of thermal engineering, metallurgy, refrigeration and air conditioning, insulation, etc.

This book is an outcome of my teaching notes. As such, the material presented here has been class tested and continuously improved through the feedback received from the students.
