Chapter 5

OSI Network Management

OSI network management recommendations developed by ISO/IEC include a set of models for effective network management similar to TMN from ITU-T. Before the release of the initial M.30 recommendation from CCITT, there was very little cooperation between CCITT (now ITU-T) and ISO/IEC management groups. After the publication of M.30, the collaborations between these groups improved and many of the OSI ideas were incorporated into TMN. At the end of this chapter you will have a good understanding of OSI network management models and how it compares with TMN.

5.1 Introduction

The OSI network management architecture mainly consists of four models. They are:

  • Organization model
  • Information model
  • Communication model
