8 Network Analysis Using NetMiner

A detailed tutorial of network analysis with sample data provided in NetMiner will be explained.

8.1 Centrality and Cohesive Subgroup

8.1.1 Centrality

  1. Degree : If there are two nodes with a link to one another, the two nodes are adjacent to each other. The degree is measured by the number of adjacent nodes to a single separate node. The degree is an analysis method to determine the number of neighbors of each node (Analyze > Neighbor > Degree). During the analysis, one can select in the main process either the # of link or Sum of weight from the [Measure] option. The default set-up defines the # of link as the number of links of the individual nodes and is used to measure the degree, which is the general method of measuring the degree. However, if the researcher believes the weight of the link is more important than the existence of a link, the analysis can apply the weight on the link through the Sum of weight option.

    From the degree analysis results, the density of the whole network, the number of nodes with respect to the node type, # of pendent (the number of nodes that are connected to only one node), inclusiveness (%) (the percentage of isolated nodes in the total number of nodes) is presented in the [R]Main.
