Chris Lattner and others at Apple developed Swift as a replacement for Objective-C, the default language for all Apple platform development. It is a new language, just released in 2014. Swift is not a functional programming language, but it incorporates some key functional features, and depending on developer input, could evolve into a language that truly embraces the functional paradigm.
