The Energy Matrix

The tool we have developed to depict organizational energy—the energy matrix—shows that companies can differ in their energy’s intensity (how much a company has activated its potential) and quality (how well a company uses its energy to pursue its goals).1 The combination of these two dimensions of energy map to the four types of energy states in organizations.

We begin this chapter by describing these energy states. Later in the chapter, we present some specific tools to help you identify and assess the state of your organization’s energy. This is a first step on the journey toward unleashing the kind of productive energy companies like CWT and Sonova have managed to do.
