Backend server implementation for the MERN applications relies on Node, and also npm. At the time of writing, 8.11.1 is the latest stable Node version available, and it comes bundled with npm version 5.6.0. However, the latest version available for npm is 5.8.0, so after installing Node, npm will need to be upgraded as discussed in the following section.
