Corporate banking: lending

Corporate banking builds on the foundation of retail banking because larger non-financial corporations also need the services provided by retail banks such as overdrafts, term loans and payment systems. However, larger and more complex companies seek more from their banks including loans for multi-million pound overseas projects or the ability to access funds from dozens of banks simultaneously. This chapter outlines various forms of borrowing that corporates obtain from their banks. The next chapter examines other aspects of commercial banking, ranging from operations in the interbank market (including the now infamous LIBOR) to help with overseas trading and managing day-to-day cash inflows/outflows.
