Options for investing

Whatever investment approach you follow, you and/or your adviser will need to use investment funds to gain access to the various investment asset classes. Investment funds provide effective diversification as your capital is pooled with that of other investors to gain exposure to the underlying investment holdings. In the UK, investment funds are either regulated or unregulated. Unregulated funds may not be promoted to most investors, unless the investor is assessed by someone authorised under the Financial Services Act as being exempt from the prohibition. Unregulated funds do not have to comply with any of the regulatory rules that cover things like diversification, pricing, gearing and security.
