Polarity Management

There is yet another approach to dealing with challenges in getting our work accomplished. In some instances, the issue or difficulty we are dealing with is not a problem as such but rather what Barry Johnson (1996, p. xviii) calls a polarity: “Polarities are sets of opposites which can’t function well independently. Because the two sides of a polarity are interdependent, you cannot choose one as a solution and neglect the other.” Believing that everything we face is a problem results in trying to solve some problems that are simply unsolvable, even with all the necessary resources.
