Importing your media into FCP is a crucial part of working with the application. The libraries used by FCP allow great flexibility, much more than in iMovie. Though media can be moved and your operational workflow can be changed while you work, doing so requires time, care, and patience. Generally it’s better to set up importing correctly to start with so your library structure and media are organized for your productions. There is no one true and certain method for all productions and all situations. There are quite a few variables, and I will try to explain some of them in this chapter and the next.
