Acknowledgments

I decided to write this book after having researched franchising for more than a decade as a faculty member at Georgia Tech, MIT, the University of Maryland, and Case Western Reserve University. My research on designing the right strategy and structure to make franchise systems successful seemed to hit a chord with entrepreneurs and managers. Several of my studies were discussed in popular publications such as the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and Entrepreneur Magazine. I appeared on several radio and television programs to talk about franchising. This, of course, led many prospective and current franchisors to contact me and ask me to serve as a consultant to their businesses.
