Mingling Formula

Have you ever wondered how some people float through a room seemingly effortlessly? They appear to connect with people in a matter of seconds and then move to the next person without hesitation. It helps to know many people, but guaranteed, there was a time when that social butterfly didn't know anyone in the room.

Rarely do I go to an event now where I don't know a majority of the attendees, but that wasn't always the case. When I started my networking journey, I wouldn't have known which room to walk into, let alone who was there. At some point, a room full of strangers became a room full of contacts. Mingling made that happen.

As my company developed, I learned that mingling was a real barrier for people so I took a closer look at how one mingles effectively and voilà —my Mingling Formula was developed:

1. Initiate dialogue.
2. Create a mini-bond.
3. Exchange contact information (or at least know how to get it).
4. Move on.
5. Repeat often.

It's that simple. Once you've tackled each element, you'll be ready and able to make your way through any crowd effortlessly. Anyone who knows more than two people (his or her parents) has successfully completed the Mingling Formula thousands of times in life. Even if you don't formalize it, the Mingling Formula is how all relationships begin.
