As difficult as it is to lose touch with the outside world, turn off your cellphone and e-mail capabilities while you're at business functions. You're not hiding anything by doing the “BlackBerry prayer” under the table. Everyone knows you're typing a message to someone outside the room. Focus on the present moment and connect with the people who are in front of you.
