Be sure to smile when you use the phone. A person can hear a smile. They can also hear you typing on your keyboard so if you're on a phone call, be present and focused on the phone call. Much like when we communicate in person, the subtle messages we send over the phone can outshine our words.

Conference Calls

Conference calls are popular and time-efficient ways to communicate with several people at once. As a word of caution, unless you're speaking, activate the mute button. It's distracting when you hear all the multitasking that's happening in the background. Covering the phone with your hand while talking with someone else, coughing, going to the facilities, or typing on your computer is not enough. It can all be heard by others on the conference call unless your phone is muted.
