To overcome the floppy fish, just buck up and bring some life to your handshake. Keep your wrist strong. The solution may be as simple as just realizing the importance of this form of communication. At the very least, even if you're crumbling inside from nervousness, offering a solid handshake won't make it so obvious to the person you are greeting.
The Church-Lady Handshake
During this shake the person adds an extra hand to the mix and covers the top or side of the shaking hands. This is tricky to analyze. In some cases, it conveys sympathy and can create a deeper bond between people. For instance, this handshake is quite commonly used when meeting grieving family members in a receiving line at a funeral home. In this case, the handshake shows genuine concern and support.
