Enabling DHCP

Once you have made sure the kernel is configured for DHCP, you can enable it in one of two ways. The first is by going through the sysinstall program. The second is by manually editing the configuration files. The sysinstall method will be covered first.

DHCP through sysinstall

If you are installing FreeBSD for the first time, simply answer yes to the post-installation question when you are asked if you want to try DHCP configuration of the network. If you have already installed FreeBSD, perform the following steps to enable DHCP from sysinstall:

As the root user, type sysinstall at the command prompt to start the sysinstall program.
