Working with Windows

For the most part, working with Windows in Gnome is very similar to working with Windows in Microsoft Windows or Macintosh. There are a few things worth noting however, particularly on the window pull-down menu.

You will notice that there are quite a few more options on the pull-down menu in Gnome than in the pull-down menu in Microsoft Windows. Here are some of the more important ones and what they do:

  • Delete— Terminates the application in the window normally.

  • Destroy— Terminates the application with a SIGKILL, forcing the application to terminate ungracefully. This signal cannot be trapped or ignored.

  • Toggle— Contains a submenu of operations that will be discussed in detail later in this chapter.
