Navigating the Desktop

If you used Windows or Macintosh before, it probably won't take you too long to become comfortable with the Gnome desktop. Figure 5.4 shows the Gnome desktop environment, after you close the Help and File Manager windows, which open by default the first time you run Gnome.

You may need to rearrange the icons on the desktop slightly if the top panel is covering some of then. Move an icon, just as you do in Windows, by holding down the left mouse button and dragging it. Gnome remembers where you left the icons the next time it starts, so you won't have to do this each time. ...
