Introduction to the Gnome Desktop Environment

If you selected Gnome as the default desktop environment during the installation, and if you also installed the packages suggested in Chapter 2, “Installing FreeBSD,” you should get a screen that will look similar to Figure 4.1.

If you worked with Windows or Macintosh in the past, you will probably quickly notice some similarities between the desktops. But you will also notice quite a few differences. Here is a list of what each of the numbered items in Figure 4.1 does:
