Logging Out of FreeBSD

When you are done using FreeBSD (or you are going to lunch or something), you should log out of the system if you are in an area in which others have access to your computer or terminal. This prevents other users from being able to access your account. To log out of FreeBSD, simply type exit at the command prompt. This should return you to the login prompt, as you saw when FreeBSD first finished booting.

Tip

If you were working on something that you do not want others to be able to see if they happen to walk past your screen, you can clear the screen before logging out by typing clear at a command prompt. After that, log out of the system as described earlier.
