Decisions and Decision Making

It is easy to argue that decision making is no big deal. Everyone does it, and they do it every day.

To support this point, consider some decisions I made this morning before leaving for work:

  • I decided to take a shower.
  • I decided to cook two eggs and two pieces of bacon for breakfast.
  • I decided what to wear.
  • I decided what route to take to work after hearing the morning traffic report.

During the morning, I also carried out routine actions automatically, including these:

  • I took out the trash, because it is trash collection day.
  • I drank two cups of strong coffee (this routine hasn’t changed in twenty years).
  • I fetched the morning newspaper from the driveway.
