Chapter 5. Cross-References

Often, a new piece of information that you encounter becomes meaningful or understandable only when it relates to some other item of information that you have already encountered. This is true whether you’re reading from a book, browsing the Web, or listening to a CD.

As information receivers, people don’t give much thought to cross-references. They are simply a part of life. As a writer, you must give cross-references more consideration. You need to manage the connections between items of information within documents actively.
