Midcourse corrections have been a major feature in the development of many recent technologies. Technical midcourse correction capabilities make it possible for computers to learn from their mistakes and improve their power and performance over time. Autopilots on aircraft use midcourse corrections to bring planes in for safe landings in zero-visibility conditions. And, of course, the Mars Rovers represent the most distant land vehicles ever to receive midcourse corrections from humans as they have rolled sedately across the Mars landscape—millions of miles from Earth.
