Finally, some vector formats can also be used to contain bitmap fonts. That is the case for PostScript Type 3 and TrueType, OpenType, and AAT fonts.

PostScript Type 3 fonts are used, for example, by dvips to incorporated TEX's PK fonts into PostScript code. dvips generates temporary fonts in which the operator BuildChar uses the operator imagemask, which takes a bitmap in the form of a hexadecimal string and displays it (§C.2).

TrueType, OpenType, and AAT fonts often contain bitmaps for the most common sizes for on-screen display. These bitmaps are managed by the tables EBLC and EBDT (called bloc and bdat in AAT) and EBSC. See §D.7 for a detailed description of these tables.
