The previous chapter introduced the four basic types of pleat and the next one shows how they can be used to create a huge array of surfaces and forms. This short chapter is transitional. It introduces concepts that are a little less basic, but which are still generic. As such, they deserve a chapter of their own.

Although short, this chapter could easily expand to become the longest in the book. A great number of variations can be derived from any set of basic techniques.
