Maya 5 was designed from the ground up for complete customizability. Hotkeys, hotboxes, and shelves are just some of the functions and options that can be customized on a per user basis. Be aware that Maya is case sensitive. This really comes into play when working with hotkeys – for instance, ‘p’ has a different function than ‘P’.
