9.1 Introduction

Water that flows down to the sea from the mountains possess a huge amount of energy with it. Man had always been thinking of using this energy to produce electricity before consuming it for irrigation, drinking or in industries, etc. The flowing water produces a force on a body when placed in its passage. This force may be due to many reasons that we have studied in this course on fluid mechanics. We shall study in this chapter the force which is useful for production of power.
