8.1 Introduction

We have learnt by now that any flow can be modelled in a mathematical form and that the different physical quantities governing the flow can be expressed in a functional form of other flow quantities. For example, pressure loss in laminar flow through a circular, smooth pipe depends on the flow velocity U, diameter D and length L of the pipe, and density ρ and viscosity μ of the fluid.
