As of the writing of this book, the Flash Lite Player is mainly installed on handsets provided by two major Japanese carriers. Despite this fact, the global Flash developer community is preparing for the expansion of Flash Lite’s reach by developing content that both highlights Flash Lite’s key benefits and features and tests its capabilities. Because a handset’s processor, display, and memory capabilities are far inferior to the average desktop computer, Flash Lite developers often need to implement creative workarounds and methods to achieve the effects they desire. For example, video is not supported at all in Flash Lite 1.1—one alternate method developers have used to simulate video is to break the movie into .jpeg images and arrange these images on the timeline.
