Also check out this list of quick suggestions to make sure your website is accessible:

  • Be careful with text superimposed on images, however cool it may seem. It can be done correctly, but it is very difficult.
  • Decorative images must have an alt attribute (alt = ""). However, non-decorative images should have alternate text. This text is read by screen readers (and also by search engines); it must provide relevant information about the content of the image. To see if an image is decorative or not, ask yourself if the content would still make sense if the image was removed.
  • Icon fonts are bad for accessibility. It is better to opt for SVG as it is an accessible image format.
