First Mile Access Networks and Enabling Technologies

Summary

This chapter covered multiple management technologies and approaches to managing first mile networks. This chapter also showcased the intelligent city approach, both from a technological as well as from a business point of view. The chapter then focused on multiple protocols that are needed to provide end-to-end service in access networks. The management planes and the evolution of technology over the past three decades was discussed. This chapter outlined the problems seen in management of first mile networks and the final solution needed to provide a unified management scheme (that of having a generalized platform to encompass multiple technologies and multiple product portfolios and suites to enable a standard management plane).
