QoS in ATM

For ATM, let us first consider the peak cell rate reference model: The ATM forum specifications provide a reference model to describe the peak cell rate (PCR). For conformance definitions, generic cell rate algorithm (GCRA) is used for ATM. Similar to constraint routing CR-LDP (Constraint Routing–Label Distribution Protocol) parameters and attributes are listed here:

  • Peak data rate— The maximum rate at which traffic can be sent to the constraint routing–label switched path (CR-LSP). It is defined with a token bucket with parameters: peak data rate and peak burst size.

  • Committed data rate— The rate that the MPLS domain commits for the CR-LSP. It is defined with parameters committed data rate and committed burst rate.
