HomePlug 1.0 Specifications for PLC

Power lines were originally intended for electrical power distribution using the frequency range of 50 to 60 Hz. The HomePlug 1.0 standard addresses the use of this medium for high-speed broadband communication. An electrical distribution system is comprised of various materials with different impedance characteristics. In addition, as the consumer load pattern changes, the terminal impedance varies with frequency and time. Reliable data communication over an electrical power distribution system requires powerful forward error correction, automatic repeat request (ARQ), and adaptable MAC. These techniques ensure corruption-free communication to the end user.
