A Typical xDSL Network

An xDSL network consists of an xDSL modem or CPE, a DSLAM, and/or an aggregator. In DSL systems, both the DSLAM function and the aggregation function can be in the same platform. The function of the CPE is to act as the customer interface and can be a router, a bridge, or both. DSLAM is used to aggregate individual subscriber lines from the CPE. Figure 7-8 shows a typical xDSL network.
