IEEE 802.16—The WirelessMAN Standard

IEEE 802.16 specifies the WirelessMAN air interface for wireless MANs. This standard defines the Media Access Control (MAC) layer and the physical layer (particularly operating at 10 GHz to 66 GHz) specifications of a fixed point-to-multipoint broadband wireless access system. The 10- to 66-GHz air interface is based on single-carrier modulation and is known as the wirelessMAN-SC air interface (SC standing for single carrier). An amendment to this standard is also defined: IEEE-SA-802.16a, to support 2 to 11 GHz using an enhanced version of the same basic MAC layer along with new physical layer.

The 10- to 66-GHz band provides a physical environment for the formation of fixed broad-band wireless access (BWA) ...
