8.4 CLOSING REMARKS

Three-dimensional stress analysis has been presented in this chapter. For axi-symmetric loading, it has been shown that the three-dimensional problem can be effectively reduced to two-dimensional one by expanding the loading using Fourier series. Two-dimensional analysis can be performed for each term in the Fourier series by taking one term at a time. The final solution can then be obtained by superposing results obtained for individual terms. Isoparametric formulations have been presented for axi-symmetric solids. Formulation for an 8-node isoparametric element has also been presented for analysis of three-dimensional solids.
