7.9 CLOSING REMARKS

In this chapter, two-dimensional finite element analysis of engineering problems are described. The energy method, method of weighted residual based Galerkin approach and variational principles in FEM described in Chapter 4 are used in the analysis. Various types of elements such as linear type triangular elements, rectangular elements and quadrilateral elements are used in the analysis of various problems. Basic concepts of iso-parametric formulation are also elaborated. FEM formulation for stress-strain analysis, Laplace equation, Poisson equation, Helmholtz equation and Stokes flow equations are discussed in this chapter.
