10.1 INTRODUCTION

Typical finite element formulations for various engineering applications were discussed in the earlier chapters. Details presented in the preceding chapters are sufficient to provide essential ideas and procedures for the development of finite element formulations and computer models for most engineering problems in one, two and three dimensions. However, each complex engineering problem differs in one way or another and there are many additional ideas and difficulties that need to be addressed, which are related to formulation of the problem using finite element method (FEM), development of computer models and applications to field problems.
