Chapter 6: Choosing the right property

The type of property you choose needs to suit yourself and potential tenants. Even if you plan to live in your property at the outset (say, if you are a first home buyer), the chances are that at some stage in the future you may rent it out, so it needs to appeal to a variety of people within your target tenant group. As discussed in the previous chapter, your target group will be largely based on the demographics of the area in which you buy. If it’s a family area, the property should have enough accommodation and outdoor space to suit families. If you are looking at flats or units for singles and professional couples, you probably want low-maintenance properties with quite a lot of visual appeal.
