1.1 Introduction

The financial statements of a firm represent the usual starting point for any assessment of financial performance. In particular, a valuation of a firm begins with a review of its current financial position and its recent results.

The review of financial statements is organized as two chapters which will focus in some detail on the financial statements of DaimlerChrysler AG, the international auto manufacturer, created by the fusion of the German Daimler and the US Chrysler corporations.
