In the course of writing this book, I talked to a few actors and directors who said, “Acting is acting,” or “I just do what I do.” These Zen-like statements have little relevance to student actors. In fact, they don’t make sense. Very good actors would say this to me, and when I attempted to question them further, they would fall silent. I respected their feelings, but it made me wonder why they think that way.

I believe those words say something else about the person. The fact is, they don’t know what they do and they don’t care to examine the process in an intellectual manner.
