Electro-optic and Opto-electronic Devices

As the title of this chapter suggests, the ability to convert electrical signals into an optical domain, and vice versa, forms the basis for fiber optic transmission. True of any system design, both the light emitters (electro-optic devices) and light detectors (opto-electronic devices) offer a variety of performance parameters that require careful consideration.
