Distress

A mother of three, Julie had experienced anxiety before but she was looking at it from a different angle now. She noted her avoidance over the years. “Being in my bathers I feel self-conscious because I am exposed and vulnerable; I can't hide. Jumping in the pool, although cold and wet, gives me a place to hide. It hides the bits I don't want to show. If I have to walk along the stands where people are swimming and I am in my bathers I have two choices. I can be brave and continue walking or I can get in the cold pool. I always go for jumping in and hiding; I know the ‘terrible’ in the pool because I have done it before.”
