A Beastly Foreword

I believe that startups are at the core of everything we do. Every company, institution, and city begins as a startup. It’s likely that our country was the ultimate startup. And now, faced with a world economy that’s determined to go sideways for a while, the startup has a more important role to play in our future than at any time in history. The creativity, innovation, and drive that produced such forces as Zipcar, Salesforce.com, and LinkedIn need to be encouraged and unleashed so we can bootstrap ourselves into this twenty-first century on our terms. So how do we do that? I’d like to suggest that one of the most important things we can do as entrepreneurs is to learn.
